Life Change: Pam’s Story

I wanted to include a perspective of live change from one of our many talented student ministry Adult Leaders.  I hope this story encourages you keep investing in the lives of those around you.  Never ever let some one or something come between you and serving God’s people.  You will never know your full impact this side of Heaven.

Hi Billy, I know you asked for how camp changed the students but we leaders were impacted in a big way and I wanted to share with you how camp affected me. I got saved about 6 years ago at Southbrook Church and began serving in student ministry about 3 years ago. I often have big fears about my abilities to lead the students as I feel I am so new in my journey. Its hard with students sometimes because when you are in groups with them you often only hear the chirping of crickets or the blank stares and you wonder if anything you said makes an impact or if they think you are just really weird. Well yesterday showed me that we are making an impact in so many ways. During our bible study time, Joel and I went over by 45 minutes and the students were late getting to lunch. We didn’t even get through all of the material because they had so many questions … mind blowing, deep questions that showed they were really interested in getting deep into the Word. Additionally, yesterday was my birthday and when I went to go to bed, there was a book on my pillow. Each of the girls had written me a note thanking me for the impact I had made on their lives on Wednesday nights and at camp. I lost it and cried for ten minutes. How great is our God to show me in such a personal way that I could make a difference when I doubted myself and wondered who am I that God would choose someone like me to lead and mentor the students. For any of the parents that fear serving for the same reasons, I encourage them to jump in with both feet. You get back so much more than you give and I am forever grateful for the opportunity. I would love for you to share this with the church as an encouragement to get involved even when you think you are the last person that God should tap on the shoulder.

  • I know my daughter Jacqueline (Jackie) is very thankful Ms. Pam is part of Southbrook Students. She was one of her first bible study leaders and she is one of the reasons she loved it so much!! 🙂 Thank you for all you do for kids Pam!
