Weekly trail run complete! I have been running for 10 years now, and in that time I have split time between road and trail. Trail running is a complete recharge for me. Hearing nature and seeing God’s creation are both inspiring. This morning as I did my first barefoot trail run I came across several sections of the trail that were underwater. Now when you approach water on a trail run your first instinct is to run through it (at least mine is). Lessons from previous attempts to do this have proven to be disastrous (twisted ankle, finding a sharp rock or root). One thing I have learned in trail running is that you can’t spend all of your time looking down. Now you do have to be aware of your surroundings so this requires you to look for roots, rocks or anything else that might trip you up; but I have learned that it’s also important to look up…well not straight up that would become problematic fairly quickly.
As I hit a familiar section of trail this morning, I notice a wide area of water. I could not discern what was trail and what was not. To complicate things further, a tree had fallen which had made discerning the path of least resistance even more difficult. My instinct was to look up. I looked up to see where the tree branches were parted as this would be an indication of where the trail is. Â Once I did this I got back on the trail and out of the woods. I wrapped up my run and even though I didn’t break any land speed records, I was reminded of how when we are taking steps of faith in our own lives and things become less clear that it is often when we look up towards God, and take our eyes off of what’s right in front of us, that we can get back on track and possibly out of the wilderness.
Be encouraged this week to look up towards God. Â He wants to guide us…He wants to lead us.
