Todays reading comes from Matthew 6. The emphasis for today, in my opinion, looks to bring the objective of our fast out into the open between our Heavenly Father and ourselves. It’s hard not to have an objective when we decide to do something like this. For me I have to really keep myself in check when I pray and fast. Listening to God for direction doesn’t always result in a tangible ‘action item’. What if the purpose of this fast was to listen to God? What if He wants to birth something in your heart now that may not come to fruition for months or even years? Let us remember to focus on listening and drawing closer to God and less on achieving a result. I am praying that God has His way with us!
