So what is the direction?

There have been lot’s of questions as to what is next for the Almaguer clan.  We are still praying for God’s ultimate direction and also for God to provide for our immediate needs.  The block of scripture from 2 Thessalonians 3 comes to mind…”For even when we were with you, we used to give you this order: if anyone is not willing to work, then he is not to eat, either.“.  Just to make sure you understand I am a fan of eating….especially Mexican food.

Now being a husband and father my first reaction is to provide for my family.  Given that I have three weeks before my job official ends I have ‘time’ to look for a job.  The bigger question I have is where does God want my family.  It’s not to difficult to find a job…it may not be what you want but as a Christian I know that if we make ourselves available for His work, He will put us where He wants us.  I have had people ask me “are you going to stay in the ministry”.   The answer is I was in the ministry from the moment I accepted Christ.  So yes I am going to stay in the ministry it just might be in a different capacity, we just don’t know yet.  The heart of the question was obviously to address the “full time” aspect.  The answer again is “yes” if that is what God would have us do.

Living by faith through our new set of circumstances has been scary, exciting, and everything else in between.  My first ministry is to my family and that means following God’s lead on where He wants us and even how I am suppose to provide for them.   Again the scripture is clear that a lazy man will not eat.  I do hold two engineering degrees and have an affinity for all things “geek” so if God opens up something in the non-ministry world with an opportunity to be a geek and get plugged into a local church then that would be good.  We are open and available for whatever.

So what am I saying?  That we as a family are walking through this by faith waiting to find the right door.  That could be full time ministry somewhere else or it could be as an engineer locally or somewhere else….we just don’t know right now.  Our prayer is that we would know soon as I want to be able to transition away from my current role into my next with a sense of direction.

The phrase that keeps popping up in my head is that our last minute it God’s perfect timing.  This is both scary and reassuring.  So if you are like me and are waiting on God’s perfect timing, know that you are in good company and also that you are exactly where God wants you to be…submitted to Him.
