Gadgets and Such

It’s not too often I find a little gadget that I like so much that I share it with you all.  I came across this little unit about two weeks ago.  Not quite sure how I landed on it, but I believe it had something to do with an ‘end of the world’ news report.  I present to you the Sawyer Point Zero Two. This little guy/engineer/planner in me came across this little device and I immediately saw several opportunities for it’s use.

Essentially it is a water filter.  It takes non-potable water, uses gravity to filter it down to 0.02 microns…which removes 99.9% of all bacteria, viruses, protozoa, and cysts.  Having a family of 6 makes me think in grand terms…do I believe God will protect us?  Absolutely!  Do I still like geek gadgets?  Absolutely!

This device not only has obvious uses such as a scenario where freshwater at home becomes an issue, it also has uses out in the mission field.  Seriously, if I were a missionary and lived in an area with questionable water, I would have one of these in my triage kit.  You can use any size reservoirs…from nalgene bottles to buckets (your creativity is the only limiting factor).  Since the unit works on gravity all you need to remember is to put the non potable water higher than the potable water bucket.

It cost $100 and makes 5 gallons of purified water in approximately 45 minutes.
